Habitat on the Hill 2024 Brought Will County Reps to Washington

This February Will County Habitat representatives traveled to Washington, D.C. for Habitat on the Hill, Habitat’s annual legislative conference. The event brought together nearly 400 Habitat staff members, board members, homeowners, resident leaders, volunteers, and emerging leaders to address the legislative aspects of providing affordable homeownership to all.

United by a common purpose, these participants represented their communities, engaged with each other, learned from esteemed housing experts, and collaboratively strategized to champion policies that drive home affordability at the local, state, and federal levels.

In attendance from the Will County affiliate was Executive Director Nicole Murray, Associate Director Dave Neary, and Habitat Homeowner Rekueta Phillips.

The inspiring theme of the conference was “Reaching new heights, together.” The Habitat on the Hill 2024 offered an unparalleled opportunity for attendees to deepen their understanding of the urgent need to address the nation’s housing challenges through policy change. Moreover, they explored how these policies could serve as transformative tools for advancing racial equity.

In addition to the learning and strategizing, attendees had the chance to meet with congressional offices, celebrate a year of policy successes at all levels of government, and leave with the tools necessary to increase their advocacy impact locally. All of this happened while they connected with peers in our nation’s capital.

It was a proud moment for us at Will County Habitat for Humanity to be part of such a significant event, contributing to the discussions and strategies that will shape the future of housing policy and affordability. We look forward to continuing our work in this area and attending future Habitat on the Hill conferences.
